President-elect Donald Trump, who was enthusiastic about selling various goods (souvenirs) named after him during the U.S. presidential election, is making money this time for Christmas specials.
According to the Washington Post and other foreign media on the 25th (local time), Trump is selling various Christmas decorations and gift souvenirs with his name and image.
Revenue from sales is not used for politics or philanthropy, but is attributed to the Trump Organization, a business owned by the Trump family.
Regarding this, the WP pointed out that Trump is using his presidency to “make personal money” in a way that is unprecedented in modern history.
President-elect Trump has long sold all kinds of goods, including digital import cards, expensive sneakers and watches, and the Bible signed by his name, but this time, he seems to be engaged in such profit activities until just before his inauguration on January 20 next year.
Jordan Ribowitz, vice chairman of the nonprofit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CRE) in Washington, D.C., pointed out, “How much will you use the presidency to sell Trump products?”
However, Trump, who has been criticized in the past, says there is no problem.
Caroline Levitt, spokeswoman for the transition team, said, “President Trump became the first president to actually decrease his net asset value during his tenure as he pulled out of his multi-billion dollar real estate empire to run for president and gave up his presidential salary.”
Trump was not included in Forbes’ list of the 400 richest people in the U.S. in 2021 for the first time in 25 years, the WP explained, because real estate values plummeted due to COVID-19.
