MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Gov. Kay Ivey has directed flags at the Capitol and all state buildings to be raised to full-staff on Jan. 20 for Inauguration Day.
The flags are currently at half-staff in memory of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at 100 years old.
Ivey had ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff for 30 days on Dec. 30, as is standard practice when a president dies.
In a news release, the governor said raising the flags for Inauguration Day is in accordance with federal law. She said flags will return to half-staff on Jan. 21 and remain so for the rest of the 30-day mourning period.
President-elect Donald Trump has already returned flags to full-staff at his private Mar-a-Lago resort and property in Florida.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has also ordered flags at state buildings to return to full-staff for Inauguration Day.
