J.D. Vance recently blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for an increase in prices for eggs, but observers noted that his point was undermined by a contradictory price tag behind him.
CNN’s Kit Maher reported than Donald Trump’s pick for Vice President “swung by supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania aiming to spotlight high grocery prices due to Kamala Harris’ policies. One of his sons handed him a carton of eggs which he held while addressing media.”
“Eggs, when Kamala Harris took office, were short of $1.50 a dozen. Now a dozen eggs will cost you around $4. Thanks to Kamala Harris’s inflationary policies, Pennsylvania actually has seen some of the worst grocery price increases of the entire nation, and again, it’s because she cast a deciding what vote on the inflation explosion act,” Vance said, according to Maher’s reporting.

The problem, according to eagle-eyed internet users, is that there was a price tag for a dozen eggs right behind Vance showing the amount was $1 less than he described.
“Hey [Vance], you might want to remove the price tags next time you lie on camera. Also, you’re holding a pack of 24 eggs. I know math isn’t your strong suit, but that’s two dozen,” Travis Akers, a retired Naval Intelligence Officer and Newsweek opinion writer, replied.
TV producer and filmmaker Morgan J. Freeman also said, “Even in their own damn photo, it shows JD Vance is lying about the price of eggs.”
Norman Ornstein — who is an emeritus scholar at the Koch-funded American Enterprise Institute — chimed in:
“Every word out of JD Vance’s mouth, including a and the, is a lie.”
A popular YouTuber also said Vance was “caught lying” about egg costs in a video released on Sunday.
ProPublica reporter Peter Elkind also said, “Fact check 101: Blaming Harris for inflation, Vance declares a dozen eggs in Pennsylvania now cost ‘around $4.’ As closeup posts below and video show, Vance is standing in front of a sign showing a dozen eggs for $2.99.”
